Compassion Fatigue

“What is compassion fatigue?”

“Am I affected?”

Compassion fatigue is heavily seen throughout the veterinary profession and among animal shelter workers/volunteers, but it is also seen in pet owners when caregiving to their special needs, ill, or dying pet(s). The name says it all; experiencing fatigue while being compassionate toward others. Compassion fatigue describes the negative physical, emotional, and psychological effects on caregivers, in direct response to the care they are providing for animals.
